City Hall is reopening after a sewage leak forced it to close

A town hall in Oxfordshire has reopened after being forced to temporarily close due to a sewage leak.

Carterton Town Hall closed yesterday (Monday September 30) and reopened today (Tuesday October 1), a spokesperson for Carterton City Council has confirmed.

Thames Water responded to reports of a sewage overflow from a manhole near Carterton Town Hall, which was cleared yesterday afternoon.

A Thames Water spokesman said: “Our engineers discovered a blockage caused by a build-up of wet wipes, grease and grease, which was restricting flow in the sewer.”

“This was resolved and the line ran as normal.

“Customers can help us prevent blockages that can cause wastewater to back up into people’s homes and gardens by only flushing the three Ps – pee, poop and paper.”
