Pearl River County man arrested on drug and assault charges

A Pearl River County man was arrested late last week on multiple drug charges and assault on an officer.

On Friday, Pearl River County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigators conducted proactive operations in the Nicholson area of Picayune. While working, they observed a vehicle blocking the roadway at 121 Daisy Drive.

Investigators approached the apartment and made contact with 50-year-old Sergio Williams. Investigators were familiar with Williams' extensive criminal history and therefore noticed Williams was acting suspiciously. Williams' behavior gave investigators reasonable suspicion to ask Williams to leave the residence and go into the yard. Before Williams left the home, investigators observed Willaims reaching into his waistband and throwing an object next to the door onto an open porch.

Williams' actions provided sufficient probable cause to arrest him. When investigators tried to do this, Williams actively resisted. After an argument, Williams complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

During a probable cause search in the area around the porch, investigators discovered in plain sight what they believed to be a distributed quantity of methamphetamine, which Williams had kept secret from investigators.

Williams was charged with tampering with evidence, possession with intent to distribute and assault on an officer.
