Shoes help police identify a man accused of stealing safes from a Lexington restaurant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Lexington police have arrested a man who allegedly stole a safe from a restaurant.

Paul Masters is charged with burglary.

According to police, he forced his way into Giuseppe's on Old Nicholasville Road in July. They say he entered through the roof and stole a safe with nearly $7,000 inside.

According to officials, the crime was caught on camera.

The summons states Masters was arrested in Fayette County on Sept. 20 on unrelated charges.

Investigators compared the officer's body camera footage during that arrest with Giuseppe's surveillance camera footage. They say Masters was wearing the same shoes as the suspect in the video.

According to the citation, police also recognized Masters in Giuseppe's surveillance video from a previous case they investigated.

The Masters tournament is in court on Friday.
