Coast Guard helicopter rescues elderly hiker who fell from Oregon Bridge

A Coast Guard helicopter crew pulled a 74-year-old hiker to safety after he fell from a bridge and became stranded in the wilderness – the entire rescue was captured on dramatic video.

The daring rescue occurred Sunday afternoon when a Coast Guard station about 18 miles east of Brookings, Oregon, was notified of the injured man, the agency reported.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was dispatched from the Guard's Sector Humboldt Bay Station just before 3 p.m. and arrived at the scene around 5:30 p.m., the agency said.

The footage shows the helicopter hovering over the bridge where the hiker fell as a white pickup truck stops on the ground and transports the injured man to a clearing in the forest.

A Coast Guard crew member is lowered to the ground along with a stretcher, the hiker is then pulled aboard along with the man, the video shows.

The injured man, whose name was not released, was flown to Del Norte County Airport in Crescent City, California, for medical treatment.

The extent of the hiker's injuries and his condition were initially unknown.
