PSV failed to win its first European game of the season for the fifth time in a row, suffering a 3-1 defeat away to Juventus two weeks ago Peter BoszThe men were completely outnumbered.

However, the hosts can remain positive as they have still progressed despite an opening day defeat in three of the last four years and now face a team they beat 3-2 in the Europa League group stage here five years ago .

PSV will be happy that this game is on home soil as they lost 4-0 in the second leg of this season and have never lost at home to a Portuguese club in the 21st century.

In the last two seasons on the continent, PSV have gone unbeaten at home, making the Philips Stadium something of a fortress, but domestically, Bosz's side look confident at every venue.

A 2-0 away win at Willem II at the weekend extended PSV's 100 percent start to the Eredivisie. sit on top with seven wins out of seven.

However, Sporting has a record that can surpass this Reuben Amorim has won eight out of eight with his team, including a win on matchday one against Lille.

In an almost perfect start, Sporting have so far scored 27 goals and conceded just two goals, keeping the team clean in their last six games.

Since returning from the international break in mid-September, Sporting have won all three league games 3-0, including an away win at Estoril at the weekend.

This leaves them very confident of securing a place in the knockout stages of this competition, with the estimated target being nine points to finish in the top 24 of the league.

Already in three consecutive away games against PSV, then at Sturm Graz, two more wins can be aimed for before Sporting hosts English giants Manchester City and Arsenal at the Jose Alvalade in November, in two encounters much more difficult on paper.

We say: PSV Eindhoven – Sporting Lisbon 2:2

Two domestically dominant teams meet here in what can hardly be called a very close encounter, but with great attacking quality on both sides, goals are likely to result.

PSV need a result, ideally a win, after their opening defeat, but Sporting are for many the dark horse for this year's competition and will pose a serious challenge.
