Woman gets 5 years in prison for hitting and killing VDOT employee

Alana F. Diomande was sentenced Tuesday morning in Hampton Circuit Court.

HAMPTON, Va. – A Yorktown woman was sentenced Tuesday to approximately five years in prison for the 2023 death of a VDOT employee.

Alana F. Diomande, 28, received the sentence in Hampton Circuit Court.

She was found guilty after a trial in June. Diomande was the defendant in the Oct. 8, 2023, death of 52-year-old Craig Boone, a VDOT security patrol officer.

Boone assisted a motorist on eastbound I-64 near the Big Bethel overpass around 1:15 a.m. that night. His vehicle was parked on the right shoulder with an illuminated arrow sign. Diomande ran off the road onto the right shoulder, throwing the VDOT truck sideways and striking Boone, who was outside the truck.

Boone, an AECOM VDOT contract employee, was from Norfolk.

Court records show Diamonde was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with five suspended, for involuntary manslaughter. She received a 12-month prison sentence, with 11 months and 15 days suspended, on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
