Former NFL star Eddie Lacy is charged with extreme drunk driving in Arizona

Former NFL running back Eddie Lacy was arrested Monday night in Scottsdale, Arizona, on charges of drunken driving and possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, police confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Scottsdale police said officers were dispatched to attempt to locate a possible impaired driver based on a vehicle description. When they found a vehicle matching the description, the driver was ordered to stop and was identified as Lacy.

After an investigation, Lacy was arrested and charged with four different DUI violations, including, according to TMZ Sports, “Extreme DUI – BAC of 0.20 or more.”

TMZ Sports added that Lacy was released from jail early Tuesday morning.

Lacy was a standout player at Alabama before entering the 2013 NFL Draft, where the Green Bay Packers took him 61st overall in the second round.

He made an immediate impact in the pros, winning the 2013 Offensive Rookie of the Year award after rushing for 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns in 15 games. Lacy also made the Pro Bowl that year.

Lacy followed up that rookie season with 1,139 yards and nine rushing scores the following year, but his career faltered from there.

Lacy had been dealing with injuries since 2015, including ankle and groin injuries. Then in 2016, he was placed on injured reserve after suffering another ankle injury midway through the season.

He would only play in five games that year and the Packers would not extend him to a long-term contract after his fourth season as his rookie deal had expired.

During this time, Lacy struggled with weight issues as teams wanted him to weigh less than 250 pounds, including those who wanted to sign him in free agency. The Packers and Minnesota Vikings were among those who wanted a one-year deal with him, but he ended up signing with the Seattle Seahawks and coming under the weight requirement.

However, Seattle had a crowded backfield in 2017 and Lacy played in just nine games (three starts), in which he had 179 yards and no touchdowns.
