Murder suspects remain in custody after body was found

Two people arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a man's body in Harrogate remained in custody, police said.

The men, aged 26 and 34, were arrested after a man in his 50s was pronounced dead in a flat in Strawberry Dale at around 11pm BST on Sunday.

A 47-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail, North Yorkshire Police said.

Det Ch Insp Tim Bentley said: “I understand there is concern in the community following this incident. I don’t believe there is any danger to the general public.”

He added: “Our extensive investigations continue and we are making progress with a team of investigators working around the clock to establish the full circumstances of this incident.”

North Yorkshire Police had previously said it would notify the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previous police contact with the victim.
