Residents benefit from discounted medication prices at the Rural Health Clinic in Wellsville

As of Monday, the Rural Health Clinic in Wellsville has been considered a children's site for East Liverpool City Hospital.

The award allows the clinic to offer prescriptions at a reduced cost under the federal 340B drug pricing program.

The program allows health care providers to purchase outpatient medications at discounted prices, which can then be distributed to patients in need.

“This is very good for patients who come to Wellsville Clinic because they could potentially save a lot of money on their prescription medications with this federal discount plan,” said Bill Smith, Rural Health Clinic Pharmacy Director.

“Some of the examples are medications used as anticoagulants. There are different brand names: Xarelto, Eliquis, inhalers, insulin, so anti-diabetics, drugs for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, anything that we can basically sell at a discounted price.”

The primary care clinic sends electronic prescriptions to the outpatient pharmacy at East Liverpool City Hospital. Residents can then pick up their prescriptions at the Wellsville clinic and pay the same low prices as at the hospital pharmacy.

The clinic is located at the corner of 6th Street and Main Street.
