Bayer Leverkusen – AC Milan 1-0: Victor Boniface scores in the Champions League victory

Bayer Leverkusen continued their perfect start to this season's Champions League with a nervy home win over AC Milan.

Victor Boniface gave Xabi Alonso's side a deserved lead in the 51st minute with a rebound after Milan keeper Mike Maignan had saved Jeremie Frimpong.

But Milan got into the game and hit the crossbar with seven minutes left with a deflected long-range shot from Theo Hernandez. The Spanish striker Alvaro Morata also headed just wide of the goal in the follow-up shot.

Leverkusen was the better team until the final phase and a goal was ruled out in the first half.

Boniface also scored after a beautiful cross from Frimpong in the 21st minute, but the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled that the Dutch full-back had timed his run too early and was offside.

Leverkusen beat Feyenoord 4-0 in their Champions League opener last month, while Milan were beaten 3-1 at home by Liverpool.
