The Switch emulator Ryujinx is broken after pressure from Nintendo

Nintendo has closed another emulator, putting an end to Ryujinx. The program was an open-source emulator for playing Nintendo Switch games on Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems. A message shared to the emulator's Discord server today stated that the developer had been contacted by Nintendo with an agreement to stop work on the project. No further details were provided regarding the terms of this agreement. The same message was also posted on X:

The emulator still works for anyone already running it, but the Github repository has been removed. Ryujinx also made some headlines last month for leading the new company Play at more than , which far exceeds the capabilities of the Switch.

Nintendo has taken an aggressive stance towards emulators and even partnered with emulators in 2023 to curb game piracy. Ryujinx is one of the most popular emulators it has acquired, but the gaming company also reached an agreement with emulator Yuzu in March. In May, there was a massive effort to remove all Yuzu code hosted in various Github repositories.
