A crash on US 40 killed two people, including a toddler

SALT LAKE CITY – Two people, including a woman and a three-year-old girl, were killed in an accident on US Highway 40 on Tuesday.

A post on the department's X account said the accident occurred at mile marker 36 of Highway 40 and the road was closed in both directions while first responders dealt with the incident.

Lieutenant Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol confirmed the accident and stated that a total of two vehicles were involved, a white pickup truck and a blue sedan.

Roden said the incident was a head-on collision. Another occupant, a teenager in the car, survived in unknown condition.

The highway patrol initially did not provide any information about the health status or total number of injuries of the occupants of the pickup truck involved in the collision.

Images sent to KSL TV by viewers show that a University of Utah air ambulance responded to the incident.
