Fatal accident at the intersection related to storms

A fatal crash that occurred Tuesday at an intersection in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, is being classified as a storm-related death, the coroner said. Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said his office responded to Highway 9, Boiling Springs Road and California Avenue, shortly after 2 p.m. Clevenger said Sarah Ann Farr, 77, of Jonesville, South Carolina, died at the scene and was not wearing a seatbelt. “This case will be the seventh storm-related death my county has experienced since Storm Helene began last Friday,” Clevenger said. “The traffic light at the intersection where this accident occurred was not working due to a power outage caused by the storm.” Clevenger said he and Sheriff Chuck Wright have been in press conferences since the Spartanburg storm asking that drivers stop at intersections where red lights don't work. “These intersections can be deadly and should be treated as four-way stops until all lights and power can be restored,” Clevenger said. He said an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday. Sky 4 flew over the area shortly before 5 p.m. and reported that the traffic lights at this intersection were not working.
