As a beauty lover, I can confirm that TikTok has a lot to offer. Every day my FYP is filled with new skincare tips, makeup trends, hairstyle hacks, viral perfumes and much more. Equally prevalent on my FYP are the viral products driving these trends, like the Wavytalk Thermal Brush ($50). A deep dive into Hairtok quickly shows how popular the brush has become. Sitting somewhere between a curling iron and a brush, the styler is not only unique, but also the perfect tool for bouncy blowouts, according to millions of TikTok reviews.

Most of us know the difficulties of creating a salon look at home. So when a tool comes along that makes work easier, we take note. We spoke to two hairdressers in advance about the advantages of the styler and they gave us tips for the best blowout yet.

What is the Wavytalk thermal brush?

If you thought Wavytalk's viral brush fell into the category of equally viral blow dry brushes, you're not alone. Although the two types have a similar silhouette, they are completely different. “The Wavytalk Thermal Brush is a versatile hair styling tool designed for smooth, frizz-free hairstyles,” says Andrew Fitzsimons, celebrity stylist and entrepreneur. He explains that the device combines the convenience of a hairbrush with the power of heat styling tools.

“The dual design features a heated core with two temperature settings for different hair thicknesses and coarse bristles that wrap around the brush. With a blow-dry brush, the core acts as a hair dryer, gently blowing heated air through holes to dry and shape hair in one simple motion, explains Amy Abramite, stylist at Maxine Salon in Chicago. While both tools can be used for blowouts, Fitzsimons notes that the Wavytalk's unique combination makes it easier to achieve salon-quality shine and volume at home.

What advantages does the Wavytalk thermal brush offer?

Getting a bouncy blow-dry and luscious curls without going to the salon usually takes time and technique. If you use a blow dryer and a round brush, you need to learn to use both tools at the same time. A blow dryer brush will save you some of the leg work, but straightening your hair may require additional tools like a straightener or curling iron. Because Wavytalk's thermal brush combines both steps, it can significantly reduce styling time. As a unit, the device ensures more shine and smoothness. But it can also be used to add volume. “The bristles gently detangle hair while the movement of the round brush adds volume,” says Fitzsimons.

This is how you get the best results

For best results, Fitzsimons recommends using the brush in sections. “After dividing the hair into sections, gently and slowly glide the thermal brush through the hair to ensure even heat distribution,” he advises. To add volume to your style, you need to add some bounce to your hairline. “Wrap the styler under the hair at the roots and pull upwards away from the scalp on a high heat setting to create volume. For straighter hair, pull the hair down with a little tension for a smoother result,” says Abramite. Similarly, Fitzsimons says it's helpful to gently roll the brush when styling.

Since this brush is a heat styler, it is important to always use a heat protectant when styling. “The style you want determines how the brush is used,” says Abramite. For thick, wavy, and curly textures, she says the tool helps reduce frizz and loosen the texture for a smoother, smoother look with more shine.
