Armed suspect arrested after standoff with law enforcement in Mossy Head

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – On Tuesday morning, the US Marshals Service (USMS) Regional Task Force, comprised of law enforcement officers from the Walton County Sheriff's Office and other local agencies, successfully apprehended a suspect following a standoff at a residence in Mossy Head.

Michael Stephen Boone, 38, of Mossy Head, was wanted by Niceville police on charges of aggravated stalking, making false reports of a bomb, threatening to cause serious bodily harm to a police officer and making written threats to kill.

At approximately 8:05 a.m., members of the USMS Task Force arrived at the residence on Seven Oaks Road and found the suspect barricaded in a mobile home on the property. Despite repeated requests to come out, Boone refused. Officers broke two windows and placed a can of OC (pepper spray) in the RV, but the suspect responded to officers on scene with death threats and stated he was armed.

Shortly afterwards, a fire was observed inside the mobile home, which was presumably started by the suspect himself. As the fire intensified, Boone had to abandon the trailer and attempted to escape on foot. Members of the task force immediately gave chase and were able to arrest him after a 100-meter chase. Although Boone continued to resist arrest, he was eventually restrained and placed in a patrol vehicle. Shortly thereafter, Walton County Fire Rescue, Florida arrived and quickly extinguished the fire in the RV.

Boone was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation. After he was released and placed in the back seat of a patrol car to be transported to the Walton County Jail, he spat in the face of a Walton County Sheriff's Office deputy and threatened to kill the deputy's wife and children.

In addition to his existing charges in Niceville, Boone now faces charges of arson, threatening to kill police, resisting arrest without violence and assault on a police officer.
