The trial of a man accused of a shooting spree with a skid steer loader begins

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A man accused of driving a skid steer loader outside a Lincoln Home Depot earlier this year was in court Tuesday

Samuel Peyrot opted out of a jury trial and instead a judge will decide whether or not he is guilty of the crimes he is accused of.

After a medical examination, his lawyer asked the court to consider acquitting Peyrot on the grounds of insanity. The prosecution also submitted several cell phone videos and body camera videos from Lincoln police officers to the court as evidence, which the judge will consider before the next hearing.

Peyrot was reportedly seen using a skid steer loader to ram vehicles and damage businesses near 70th and Nebraska Parkway on Jan. 14. No one was injured during the event, but a police cruiser and some businesses were damaged.

Peyrot is expected to be back in court on November 8th.
