Palestinian killed in Iranian attack on Israel – the only known death

Shocking footage shows the moment a Palestinian was killed instantly by shrapnel from one of the rockets Iran fired at Israel on Tuesday.

A gruesome video released by Israel shows the man walking on a street in the West Bank village of Nu'eima, not far from Jericho, as a large piece of an Iranian missile fell from the sky.

As the video shows, the huge piece of shrapnel landed directly on him.

The man, identified by Palestinian media as a worker named Sameh al-Asl, was the only person reportedly killed in the Iranian attack.

The Islamic Republic has fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at densely populated areas of the Jewish state in direct retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and other senior officials of the terror group last week, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said .

“We have said it once and we will say it again: the Iranian regime is dangerous, destructive and one of the greatest threats to regional and global stability,” Israel said in a social media post that said. 181 rockets were fired against the Jewish state.

Tuesday's attack sent millions of Israelis fleeing to bomb shelters and lit up the skies over Tel Aviv. According to preliminary reports, only two Israelis have been injured in the rocket attacks so far.

How Israel's Iron Dome works

Israel's Iron Dome is a high-tech missile defense system designed to shoot down incoming missiles before they can hit populated areas.

  • Recognition: Radar scans the sky and tracks incoming rockets or missiles.
  • Evaluation: The system calculates the threat – the location where the missile will hit.
  • Orientation: When the missile heads toward a populated area, Iron Dome locks onto the target.
  • Interception: A missile is fired from an Iron Dome launcher and races to intercept.
  • Neutralization: The interceptor destroys the incoming missile in mid-air, preventing it from reaching its target.

Eight people were shot dead and seven others were injured in a suspected terrorist attack in Tel Aviv, Israeli police said.

The IDF has vowed to retaliate for the attack, despite the IRGC's warning that Israel would “face severe attacks” if it retaliated.

“This fire will have consequences,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said. “We have plans and will act at the time and place we choose.”

A similar attack in April failed when Israeli, US and Jordanian forces successfully intercepted the “vast majority” of around 300 drones and missiles fired by Iran and proxies in Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon.

The only known victim of this attack was a seven-year-old Arab girl.
