“Massive water leak” fixed, no need to issue a boil order

MONETTE, Ark. (KAIT) – Monette Mayor Bob Blankenship said crews fixed a “massive water leak” just hours after it began.

He told K8 News the leak was fixed around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1st.

Mayor Blankenship said the leak began sometime after 5:30 p.m. when a worker hauling dirt walked over a fire hydrant in an area where new homes were being built.

A news release initially warned residents to avoid the intersection of South Williams Street and Harris Avenue near the Monette Housing Authority as crews worked on the issue.

Mayor Blankenship said the fire hydrant was connected to the main water system, but fire protection services were not affected. A plug at the end of a pipe used to relieve pressure was broken, but crews are expected to replace it with a new one on Wednesday, October 2nd.

He added that no boil order would be issued.
