Two students charged in Ottawa High School shooting incident | 103.9 WLPO

Rumors of a gun on the Ottawa High School campus turned out to be true.

A statement from the school district released Tuesday afternoon said they became aware of rumors circulating around the school and on social media that there was a firearm on school property. Ottawa police assisted in the investigation and eventually found an unloaded gun in a locker. There was no ammunition in the cabinet or in the immediate vicinity of the weapon.

Police said they isolated the student they believed brought the weapon, along with a second student who had knowledge of the weapon from the rest of the student body. A juvenile referral was issued for both students on charges of unlawful use of a weapon. The student suspected of bringing the weapon was taken to the La Salle County Detention Center. The other student involved was released to his parents.

Ottawa Police believe the gun incident was an isolated incident that did not pose an ongoing threat to students, staff or the community.
