Ex Ryan Lizza revealed my secrets and threatened violence after the RFK Jr. “affair.”

Olivia Nuzzi, the political journalist who had a personal relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. while covering the 2024 campaign, has accused her ex-fiancé of launching a blackmail and harassment campaign against her, according to CNN.

Nuzzi's claims against Ryan Lizza, himself a star political reporter, were made in court this week and before a judge in Washington, D.C., the station reported Tuesday.

The alleged plot against Nuzzi began in July when Lizza allegedly began making plans “to blackmail her into a relationship with him again and punish her if she didn't give in,” CNN reported.

The following month, Nuzzi said in the filing, Lizza reportedly “explicitly threatened to make personal information about me public in order to destroy my life, career and reputation – a threat he has since made good on.”

Nuzzi requested a civil protection order against Lizza, which a D.C. Superior Court judge granted at a hearing Tuesday. Another hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15, when the order expires.

To do this, Lizza hacked into her personal electronic devices, stole one of them, and then began quietly spreading her dirty laundry around the city, looking for a media outlet that could pick up his anonymous tip, Nuzzi claimed.

According to CNN, she referred to the contents of his blackmail material only as “the thing.” Kennedy is not named in her filing.

Nuzzi said some of the dirt Lizza allegedly had on her had been “treated” to make her appearance even worse. She also claimed Lizza may have posed as an “anonymous campaign employee” while searching the information.

Lizza denied all of Nuzzi's allegations in a statement.

“I am saddened that my ex-fiancée is making a series of false accusations against me to distract from her own personal and professional mistakes,” he told the Daily Beast. “I firmly reject these allegations and will defend myself vigorously and successfully against them.”

A few hours later, Semafor journalist Maxwell Tani reported on

The alleged blackmail threat had taken place about a month earlier new York The magazine announced that Nuzzi had been placed on leave after she told its editors that she had entered into a relationship “with a previous person relevant to the 2024 campaign during her coverage of the campaign.”

Media journalist Oliver Darcy identified the subject as Kennedy in his status newsletter that same evening new YorkThe statement was published online.

The magazine said it reviewed her 2024 work and found “no inaccuracies or evidence of bias” but hired an unnamed independent third party to dig into her stories more thoroughly.

Nuzzi released a statement on the matter later that evening, saying that “some communications between myself and a former reporter earlier this year became a personal matter.”

“During this time, I did not directly report on the issue or use her as a source,” she said.

“The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I disappointed, especially my colleagues new York.”

The next day, Lizza, who serves as Politico's chief Washington correspondent, said in an edition of the Playbook newsletter he co-authored: “Because of my connection to this story through my ex-fiancé, my editors and I agreed that I won. “ “Do not be involved in any coverage of Kennedy in Playbook or elsewhere at Politico.”

The night the news broke, Kennedy claimed through a spokesman that he had only met Nuzzi “once in his life for an interview she requested that produced a hit song.”

Pressed by host Martha MacCallum to elaborate in an appearance on Fox News last week, Kennedy said he “never” commented on such stories.

“If you want to talk about health,” he continued, “or how to end the war in Ukraine, or how to end inflation and – or how to end the censorship and surveillance regime, then I’m happy to talk about that. “

Vanity Fair reported over the weekend that Lizza broke off his engagement to Nuzzi shortly before the Democratic National Convention in August “after learning of her relationship with Kennedy.”

The report did not clarify exactly when he found out about the relationship, which reportedly involved only digital communications and never resulted in a physical relationship.

However, following the discovery, Lizza and Kennedy had an “at times heated” phone conversation, sources said Vanity Fair. Lizza declined to comment to the magazine.
