Man arrested with his children after being taken hostage at Pittsburgh's Allegheny Center

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, SWAT units arrested a man in the Allegheny Center neighborhood of Pittsburgh on Tuesday afternoon following a hostage-taking incident involving the man's children.

Pittsburgh police were dispatched to the 200 block of East Ohio Street for a domestic call at the Allegheny Commons apartment complex around 3:20 p.m., public safety said.

Officers spoke with a woman who said her 7-month-old daughter and 21-month-old son were in the apartment with her father. Names were not mentioned.

The woman told police that the father entered the apartment after an argument. She told police he made threatening statements to the children.

SWAT created a diversion to separate the father from the children – who were examined by doctors, public safety said.

SWAT, negotiators, emergency medical services tactical medics and firefighters responded. According to public safety, charges are pending against the father.
