A 15-year-old student is in critical condition after jumping from a fifth-floor window at a Philadelphia high school on Tuesday. Police have not said how the girl walked out the window.

The School District of Philadelphia confirmed that Murrell Dobbins Career and Technical Education High School was placed on lockdown shortly after noon. The district said parents will be able to pick up their children if they are released early.

According to police, the girl was taken to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition.

“We can assure you that our staff is working diligently to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for our students while authorities conduct an investigation,” the school said in a statement.

The high school is located in North Philadelphia in the 2100 block of West Lehigh Avenue.

The school said representatives from the Philadelphia School District's Office of Prevention and Intervention were dispatched to provide assistance. This includes school counselors who are available to speak with anyone who wants to share their feelings. You can also call or text 1-833-PHL-HOPE (1-833-745-4673) for free support.

Superintendent Tony Watlington said in a statement that school will resume on a normal schedule on Wednesday.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the student and her family, as well as her classmates and friends at Murrell Dobbins High School,” Watlington said in the statement.

The Philadelphia Police Department is leading the investigation.
