Frankie Valli responds after viral videos spark concerns among fans

Frankie Valli went viral on social media after fans expressed concerns about the singer's age as he continues to perform with the Four Seasons.

The 90-year-old singer is on tour with the band and a video of the group playing “Bye, Bye, Baby” has racked up millions of views on TikTok and X.

“Anyone who keeps sending Frankie Valli on stage at this point is committing elder abuse,” one X user captioned a clip of the band’s performance, which has been viewed more than 2 million times.

Social media users responded to a separate TikTok in which Valli performed the hit song, writing: “I really hope he does this voluntarily, he looks exhausted…Frankie Valli is a sweetheart.”

Valli responded to the chatter on social media in a statement to TODAY.com on Oct. 1.

“I know there's been a lot of talk about me on the internet lately, so I wanted to clear things up. I'm blessed to be 90 years old and still doing what I love to do, and as long as I'm able and the audience wants to see me, I'll be out there like I always do. I absolutely love what I do. And I know we put on a great show because our fans still come out in droves and the show still rocks,” he said.

“How do we do the show?! The Four Seasons sound has always been about layering vocals and instruments. We use our 60 years of experience to make us sound like the records. I sing, I have singers who sing, great arrangements… everything,” he added. “I have to laugh when I ask in the comments if someone is forcing me to go on stage. No one has ever forced me to do anything I didn’t want to do.”

Fans were also concerned about a clip of Valli performing “December 1963 (Oh What a Night)” that was posted to TikTok with the caption, “How much effort I'm putting into work this week.”

In the video, Valli appeared to be behind in choreography compared to other dancers on stage.

TikTokers reacted to the clip in the comments:

  • “Why are they doing this to this legend, very sad”

  • “Sir, take a seat. It’s okay to rest.”

  • “It’s so sad that no one intervened for Frankie”

  • “Who allows this? Is there no guardian or conservator?”

  • “Frankie blinks twice when you’re in danger.”

Valli said in the statement that he plans to continue doing shows and “delivering the great Four Seasons sound” for as long as possible.

“Like that line in 'Jersey Boys,' I'm like that bunny on TV that just keeps going and going and going,” he said. “Chasing the music.”

According to the band's website, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons are scheduled to hold concerts until April 2025.
