Gas leak prompts precautionary evacuations in SF

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Residents in a San Francisco neighborhood were ordered to evacuate Tuesday after a gas leak. The evacuation order has now been lifted.

The San Francisco Fire Department called the evacuations a “precautionary measure” and said there is no danger to the public at this time.

Temperatures in San Francisco are expected to reach the 90s on Tuesday

The evacuation is for residents south of Paul Avenue at Crane Street, Exeter Street and Gould Street SFFD. Police officers went door to door telling residents to evacuate or shelter in place.

An air-conditioned Muni bus was sent for the evacuated residents.

PG&E said that at 10:30 a.m. an outside construction crew damaged a gas line on Paul Avenue. PG&E crews stopped the gas release at 5:10 p.m

Emergency services are working to repair the damaged line. Seven hundred PG&E natural gas customers have lost service as repairs are underway.

There is no estimated time for service to be restored.
