Man arrested after confronting security officers

A security guard suffered minor injuries when he was allegedly attacked by a disorderly customer at The Revelry on South Service Road in Grambling.

Brooks Connor Byerley, 19, of Ida, Louisiana, was arrested by Grambling police after questioning the security guard and an off-duty state Alcohol and Tobacco Control officer who witnessed the incident.

Grambling Police responded to The Revelry around 3:10 a.m. Sunday morning responding to a report of a fight in the parking lot. The security guard told police that he was clearing the parking lot when a man yelled that he wasn't going anywhere and that the security guard couldn't force him to do anything. The man used numerous profanities as he was told to leave the parking lot at least five times.

When the man reached into his pants as if to pull a gun, the security guard grabbed him to stop him from pulling his hand out of his pants. The man began hitting the security guard, causing both of them to fall to the ground.

An off-duty ATC agent witnessed the incident and assisted the security officer until police arrived. The officer's uniform was soiled and police saw scratches on his arms and lower back.

Byerley was arrested on charges of simple assault and disturbing the peace and booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. His bail was set at $4,000.
