Kansas man arrested in rural Bussey for alleged sexual abuse and child endangerment | KNIA KRLS Radio

A Kansas man was arrested in rural Bussey for alleged sexual abuse and child endangerment.

According to court records, on September 29, the Marion County Sheriff's Office initiated a sexual assault investigation into defendant Douglas McPeters – also known as Douglas Followill. McPeters is currently wanted in the state of Kansas and is a registered sex offender. On Sept. 26, a minor lived in the same apartment as McPeters and told police he abused her while she slept.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office referred to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry and determined that McPeters was previously required to register in Iowa but now had an “inactive” status due to his residency in the state of Kansas. A deputy spoke with the defendant's probation officer in Kansas, who advised him that the defendant had not notified him of the change of residence per his requirements and also had an outstanding arrest warrant. Deputies spoke to residents at the address in Bussey who said the defendant had been living with them for weeks at a time over several months. Defendant failed to disclose to any authority, specifically Marion County, the persons living with him at the Bussey address, as he requested. Two of the residents were juveniles and the defendant is not the legal guardian. In addition, it was discovered that the defendant was temporarily staying in the apartment where he had unsupervised access to the young people.

McPeters is charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, lascivious behavior toward minors, two counts of child endangerment and two counts of violating the sex offender register.
