Man arrested in connection with July shooting in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – A suspect in connection with a shooting that left one person hospitalized this summer is now behind bars.

Back on July 7, Holyoke Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation on Maple Street.

One person was injured in this drive-by shooting.

Police then saw someone in the car where the shots were fired at another vehicle at the same intersection later that night.

The car was tracked to Chicopee but was never found.

A few weeks later, 28-year-old Juan Sanchez was arrested for an unrelated incident, and officers identified him and two other men as suspects in the drive-by shooting.

Last Friday, local officials found one of those missing suspects, 34-year-old Shacolby Merriman, in Chicopee.

During the execution of a search warrant, Merriman was taken into custody and is now facing multiple firearms charges.
