San Antonio Police: Man arrested and charged with arson after reportedly setting multiple fires on Northeast Side

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A man believed to be responsible for a series of fires and a robbery has been arrested.

According to San Antonio police, the first fire was reported around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Ira Lee Road on the Northeast Side.

While firefighters were putting out the fire, they learned of another fire behind the house.

Then a passer-by alerted the fire department to a bush fire further down the road.

There was another call for burning cars at the repo yard, also on Ira Lee Road.

A few hours later, an officer spotted a man walking behind some businesses on Austin Highway. They began chasing the man, who climbed to the roof of a house and jumped from one roof to another as he tried to escape officers.

He eventually climbed to the roof of a post office on Austin Highway and stayed up there until police were able to arrest him just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

He was taken to a hospital for evaluation because he had fallen several times while jumping from roof to roof.

The man's name has not been released, but police say he is charged with arson.

KTSA News will update this developing story as more information is released.
