India Today Fact Check has found that this 2023 video shows a Ukrainian airstrike in Moscow, Russia.

Our probe

Backward searching keyframes from the viral video led us to a post on the Russian social media platform VK. This post from July 2023 claimed that the video in question shows drones landing in one of Moscow's buildings.

Further research led us to a BBC news report to this video from July 30, 2023. According to this, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that on July 30, 2023, three Ukrainian drones were shot down, while two drones hit office buildings. Moscow accused Kiev of carrying out the drone strike that damaged the facades of two office buildings. Vnukovo Airport was also briefly closed after the airstrike. No injuries were reported.

After the drone attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address: said that the attack on Russian territory was “inevitable, natural and absolutely fair,” adding that the war would return to Russia. The report also included a photo of a skyscraper that was damaged in the attack.

Per ReportsOn July 30, 2023, an explosion occurred in the 50-story IQ Quarter building, while another explosion occurred in the OKO Tower complex in the Moscow International Business Center on July 30, 2023.

It is therefore abundantly clear that a video of Ukraine's 2023 attack on Russia was mistakenly passed on as recent footage from Tel Aviv.
