Buckhannon City Councilman Arrested by FBI on Child Pornography Charges

BUCKHANNON – A former Buckhannon mayor and current city councilman was arrested by the FBI Wednesday morning.

According to a United press release, David McCauley was arrested at his Meade Street home after a federal grand jury indicted him for “enticing a 17-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct for photo and video production.” “ have prosecutor William Ihlenfeld.

McCauley, 66, is charged with two counts of production and one count of possession of child pornography, according to the release.

“The indictment alleges that McCauley enticed a 17-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct for photo and video production,” the release states. “The indictment also accuses McCauley of knowingly possessing illegal images on his computer.”

The actual indictment was not initially available on Wednesday morning.

The arrest came more than two years after federal agents searched McCauley's home in September 2022. At the time, the FBI's Pittsburgh field office only confirmed that the FBI was “conducting law enforcement activities” at the home, but did not specify what their nature was.

“As alleged, David McCauley produced child pornography involving an underage boy on multiple occasions,” Ihlenfeld said in the release. “Those who exploit and exploit our youth will be held accountable, regardless of their status in the community.”

According to the release, McCauley faces 15 to 30 years in prison on each production charge and up to 10 years on the possession charge. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberley Crockett is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pittsburgh Police Department and the Upshur County Sheriff's Office.
