New trouble for Kamala Harris? Husband Doug Emhoff accused of 'forcibly slapping' ex-girlfriend in France

Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, has been accused of slapping his ex-girlfriend for flirting with a valet employee, the Daily Mail reported.

The incident, which allegedly occurred in France, dates back to 2012 when they were waiting in a valet line after the Cannes Film Festival.

The report said three unnamed friends of a woman who is now a successful New York lawyer told the Daily Mail about the alleged assault.

The news outlet said the friends asked not to be named for fear of retaliation from Emhoff.

Referring to the woman, who goes by the alias “Jane,” the report said that immediately after the incident, she allegedly called one of the friends who was sobbing in her taxi.

“It was hard to hear her because she was sobbing. “She told me she was with a man and he hit her,” the report quoted one of Jane's friends, a top New York businessman, as saying.

However, the three friends said that when Jane tried to leave after the alleged assault, Emhoff forced his way into the taxi with her.

“Suddenly the car was there and they led her in,” said another friend, a successful New York lawyer.

“She said she wanted to go back to the hotel without him. But while she was closing the door, he forced his way into the car, which she didn't want,” she added.

Jane told her friend that she couldn't believe he was the person he is and that this trailer trash moment happened.

A third friend, a top female executive at the company, claimed that Jane first said she was dating Emhoff in 2014 and told the full story of his alleged abuse in 2018.

“Emhoff did not apologize the next day for the alleged abuse. When he hit her, she hit back and said, “Don't ever do that again,” the manager recalled.

In August, Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman, admitted that he had an extramarital affair years ago that contributed to the breakdown of his first marriage.

“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through difficult times because of my actions,” Emhoff said in a statement. “I took on responsibility, and in the years since, we have handled things as a family and come out stronger on the other side.”

Emhoff and Harris met on a blind date in 2013 and married the following year. It was her first marriage and his second.
