Accident near Atwater, Minnesota, temporarily closes US Highway 12 Tuesday evening – West Central Tribune

ATWATER — A two-vehicle collision closed a portion of U.S. Highway 12 near Atwater Tuesday evening and sent two people to the hospital.

According to a Minnesota State Patrol accident report, two vehicles collided while traveling eastbound on the highway near milepost 85 between Kandiyohi and Atwater.

Reese Allan Morrison, 18, of Wilmont, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to CentraCare – Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for treatment.

He was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson he was driving deployed.

The second driver involved was identified by the State Patrol as Michelle Maria Busskohl, 51, of Atwater. She suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was also taken to Rice Memorial Hospital for treatment.

She was wearing a seatbelt. The airbags in the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica she was driving did not deploy.

According to the State Patrol, road conditions were dry and alcohol was not a factor.

The crash was first reported on Tuesday around 7:31 p.m. The Minnesota Department of Transportation travel information website 511 said the road would reopen at 9 p.m

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, Atwater Fire Department, CentraCare and Atwater Ambulance also assisted the Minnesota State Patrol at the scene.
