TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) – The Texarkana Texas Police Department has made an arrest in an unsolved murder case from 2014.

According to police, Rollins was found dead on June 17, 2014, outside an apartment in the 1000 block of College Drive. All the leads investigators had at that point turned out to be dead ends. Over the years the path became colder and colder.

However, police say they never stopped solving the case. Detective Thomas Shaddix had been working on the cold case for several months when he learned of new DNA testing options that didn't exist about a decade ago. He decided to pursue it.

Det. Shaddix requested assistance from the Texas Attorney General's Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit. Through a federal grant program with the Justice Department, the attorney general's office was able to provide invaluable assistance in the investigation, police said. They were able to conduct expedited forensic testing and helped arrest Cheatham after he was identified as a suspect through this new DNA test.

At that point, a warrant was issued for Cheatham's arrest for murder. According to police, he was already in the Bi-State Jail for probation violations for which he was arrested in September.

Cheatham now faces a new murder charge; his bail was set at $1 million.
