Video: Time-lapse footage shows Hurricane Helene making landfall in the Big Bend area

A time-lapse video from the Florida Department of Transportation shows the raw power of nature as Hurricane Helene approached Horseshoe Beach last week and made landfall as a Category 4 storm.

Dramatic video shows Hurricane Helene devastating the coastal community on September 26th and 27th.

The hurricane, which destroyed homes and flooded streets in Horseshoe Beach, left a trail of destruction along the west coast of Florida and the southeastern United States.

Helene brought winds of up to 140 miles per hour and devastating storm surge, as well as torrential rain and historic flooding to inland areas of the southeast.

Storm surge in Florida's Big Bend region reached over 15 feet, while cities like Tampa and Clearwater Beach experienced their highest storm surge in decades.

The strong storm is responsible for more than 100 deaths in six states.
