Student arrested after posting threats on Instagram

SAN ANTONIO – A student was arrested after posting a threat on social media.

In response to a threat reported on social media, the East Central Independent School District (ECISD) and the East Central Police Department (ECPD) worked together to investigate the matter. The Southwest Texas Fusion Center, a regional intelligence agency, also assisted in the investigation.

After a thorough review of the evidence, authorities determined that the image used in the threatening post came from a Google search. A student was identified and arrested in connection with the incident. The student will face significant legal and disciplinary consequences.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office and ECPD searched the student's home and found no weapons. Nevertheless, the student remains in custody and will be held accountable for his actions.

ECISD emphasizes that all threats, regardless of their intended purpose, are taken seriously. The District will prosecute individuals who engage in threatening behavior to the fullest extent of the law.

The school wants to ensure a safe learning environment for all students, so additional police officers will be on campus throughout the week. Counselors are also available to provide support to students who may have been affected by the incident.
