UWPD Investigates Assault and Harassment Following Incidents Near Campus | News

On October 2nd at approximately 2:00 p.m., a UWPD criminal incident report reported assault and harassment.

According to the notification, a UW Tower security officer contacted UWPD around 5 p.m. on Oct. 1 after being followed by a man outside the building and receiving a verbal death threat. The man then continued north on Brooklyn Avenue Northeast, where another witness saw him attempting to attack two other people.

A second campus visitor contacted UWPD and reported that a man approached them on Red Square, made racial slurs and then punched them in the face. UWPD is treating this case as a hate crime.

UWPD then located a potential suspect who matched the description reported in both incidents, but was unable to positively identify him.

UWPD was unable to provide further comment as this is an ongoing investigation.
