HUGHESVILLE – Route 220 north of the Muncy Township-Wolf Township line was down to one lane after the driver of a northbound Subaru Outback crashed Wednesday around 4:30 p.m., according to state police.

The driver, a Sullivan County resident, went off the road and drove at least 200 feet into thick brush, police said. The driver, who managed to escape the wreckage on his own, was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport, police said.

A heavy-duty tow truck from Freedom Towing was used to pull the damaged car from the brush.

The Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and the state Department of Transportation also responded to the crash.

About 90 minutes after that accident, a second accident occurred on Route 220, about a quarter-mile north of the first, according to state police.

According to local reports, at least five people were injured in the three-vehicle accident at 6:10 p.m. The fire department said a vehicle was seriously damaged.

Drivers should try to avoid the area if possible.
