Police are investigating a fatal pursuit and stolen vehicle
INCIDENT
Opelousas, LA – On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at approximately 3:27 a.m., a police officer
from a neighboring jurisdiction (Sunset PD) observed a red Honda Accord driving the wrong way
On a one-way street within Opelousas city limits. Out of concern for public safety
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver refused to comply with the request and fled at high speed

A short chase ensued during which the driver of the vehicle, later identified as a 17-year-old, was identified
A black man lost control of the car and crashed. The driver was thrown out of the vehicle
Impact and tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
