Middle school student in Newton County is accused of threatening classmates

An 11-year-old Newton County boy was arrested on charges of making terroristic threats and acts.

The unnamed boy, a student at Indian Creek Middle School, is accused by the Newton County Sheriff's Office of threatening violence against another student.

The Sheriff's Office urges parents and guardians to ensure their children understand the serious consequences of threats. “We continue to encourage parents and students to be mindful of what they say and do,” the sheriff’s office said.

Since the shooting at Apalachee High School, the number of incidents of threats from teens has increased. The Sheriff's Office has reiterated its commitment to working with the Newton County School System to maintain a safe learning environment. “We encourage everyone to report suspicious behavior or concerns immediately,” the office said.

The juvenile court will now deal with the case of the 11-year-old boy.
