In an inspiring Instagram post, Lanez shared that he was struggling financially about a decade ago and was sleeping in his ex-girlfriend's car and on his manager's couch. His fortunes changed when Trina stepped in to help him.

Lanez remembered showing Trina his song “Godfather.” She immediately saw the potential and told him, “This is the song that will get you a deal.” Trina provided $5,000 to help Lanez film the video for the track. The same director later made a second video for “Henny in Hand” for free. Just two months after completing the videos, his work came to the attention of Interscope Records, which led to Lanez's first major record deal. “The rest was history,” Lanez reflected.

The praise continued as Tory expressed gratitude for Trina's belief in him. Lanez was able to refine his music and image, which helped him gain fame. Now, a decade later, Lanez is re-releasing his Lost Cause mixtape, which included these crucial tracks, on October 1st to celebrate its 10th anniversary. He also hinted at more new releases, stating, “This will be the first of my many classic mixtapes that I will be officially releasing on DSPs now that I am INDEPENDENT!!!”
