People share their experiences with drug addiction at statewide bus tour stops in eastern Iowa

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – Non-profit Mobilize Recovery helps people affected by drug addiction and its “National Mobilize Recovery Tour” stopped at Bart's Farm in Marion on October 2nd.

The event highlighted various local resources available to those in need.

“There is strength in knowing that it is not just one of us, but everything depends on us, and we have all experienced that. I relapsed 20 times before I finally did it. So it's empowering to be here today and see things like this,” said Chelsea Howell of Cedar Rapids, who attended the event and has overcome a meth addiction.

“My son died as a result of fentanyl, my wife died a few years later from alcoholism. “I lost half of my family, but I gained so much love and support from the community, which has filled much of that void, but certainly can’t fill it all,” said Jeff Johnston, founder and CEO of Brightn.

In addition to the resource fair, people received training on how to use Narcan to reverse an opioid overdose.
