DPS chase in Texas ends in crash, temporarily closing all lanes of I-10 East in west El Paso

All lanes have reopened on I-10 East near Porfirio Diaz in west El Paso after a Texas DPS chase ended in a crash Wednesday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a chase ended at 9:30 a.m. on I-10 East near the UTEP exit after a white Chrysler 300 – suspected of human smuggling – crashed into two other vehicles.

As a result of the crash, all eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed at Porfirio Diaz for over an hour, the Texas Department of Transportation confirmed.

Texas DPS said the driver of the Chrysler, Gavriela Batres-Ramos, 21, of Sunland Park, attempted to run away after the crash but was eventually caught and arrested.

Cops also said they arrested seven migrants in the Chrysler and turned them over to Border Patrol.

Batres-Ramos was booked into the El Paso County Jail and charged with smuggling of persons, fleeing in a motor vehicle and eluding.
