Man accused of hitting pregnant woman while trying to drive through

A Connecticut man is accused of attacking a pregnant woman during an attempted carjacking that occurred at a Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru on Tuesday (Oct. 1).

William RodríguezThe 28-year-old was charged with breach of peace, second-degree assault on emergency medical personnel, third-degree robbery, second-degree reckless endangerment, assault on a pregnant person, third-degree assault, obstructing an officer and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, FOX News Reports. Rodriguez pulled into the parking lot directly in front of the victim's car, allegedly got out, climbed into the passenger side of her vehicle and demanded the keys. The four-month pregnant woman refused and the suspect began beating her before she managed to escape the vehicle and run into the Dunkin' Donuts for help.

A drive-thru employee witnessed the attack and notified two co-workers, who ran outside and grabbed Rodriguez as he attempted to flee the scene in the victim's vehicle. Rodriguez continued to struggle after officers intervened and reportedly bit a paramedic's hand after his arrest.

Officers discovered that the vehicle Rodriguez was originally driving, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, had previously been reported stolen. The suspect is held on a $250,000 bond on the charges related to the attack, as well as additional charges totaling $475,000 on several outstanding warrants.
