Man accused of shooting into crowd in Greeley is charged with attempted murder

A 21-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot at a crowd of “car enthusiasts” in Greeley on Monday, police said.

Alberto Corona was charged with attempted first-degree murder, felony menacing, vehicular eluding, disorderly conduct, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, displaying a fictitious license plate, driving an unregistered vehicle and five counts of possession of a weapon as a prior offender, according to court records.

According to a statement from Greeley police, Corona drove past the crowd of nearly 60 people in Greeley around 12:11 a.m. Monday and allegedly fired several shots before speeding away.

Officers patrolling the area immediately followed Corona and attempted several unsuccessful traffic stops as the 21-year-old fled south — including one in which the man's tires were flattened with “stop sticks,” police said.

Corona lost control of his car at Colorado 85 and 42nd Street and crashed into a utility pole, police said.

The 21-year-old driver and his passenger, a 20-year-old woman, were arrested and Corona was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries from the crash before being taken to the Weld County Jail, police said.

No one was injured at the gathering in Greeley and the passenger is not being charged at this time, police said.
