Man admits killing his mother in her home

Barry Noone was arraigned in court again on Thursday [Pacemaker]

A man has admitted killing his 77-year-old mother in her home more than two years ago.

Barry Noone, 47, had previously denied murdering Una Noone.

But on Thursday he was charged again at Belfast Crown Court at the request of his defense lawyer.

When the murder charge was brought against Mr Noone, of Daleside Road, London, he replied: “Not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.”

Ms Noone was found dead at the house in Rathkeen Avenue, Cookstown, County Tyrone in June 2022.

A lawyer for the prosecution said the prosecution was content to accept the plea of ​​manslaughter.

Mr Noone was remanded in custody so that a report could be prepared before sentencing.

He is due back in court on December 6th.
