A fatality investigation is now underway following a crash at National Avenue and Primrose Street on Wednesday evening, October 2nd.

Springfield police officers were called to the scene just before 5:30 p.m. and discovered a minor accident after a Ford F-150 attempted to drive between two other vehicles on National. No one was injured in the collision, but the driver of the truck was found slumped in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head.

The man has not been identified. It's unclear how he was shot, but police believe the shot came from a gun that was in the driver's truck. The police do not believe this poses a danger to the population.

The accident closed much of the National Freeway and James River Freeway for two hours while the investigation took place.
