UP woman accused of shooting at police officers while awaiting extradition to Michigan

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI – A woman accused of firing a gun at police is awaiting extradition to Michigan, where she will face charges in connection with a Sept. 20 incident. According to WLUC-6, the 50-year-old woman was injured when she was shot by non-lethal bean bag bullets and has been hospitalized since then, so she could not be formally charged.

On the day of the incident, Iron Mountain Police were called to a home for reports of a person barricaded inside the home with a handgun. When police arrived on scene, they reported hearing a shot fired in their direction from the basement of the home. As negotiators arrived on scene, another shot was fired.

Police eventually established a communications link with the suspect, but contact ended abruptly. At some point the suspect left the basement and was armed with a pistol. Police used the less-than-lethal bean bag rounds to subdue the woman, but she was injured in the shootout.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Green Bay, Wisc. Hospital for further treatment. After the woman was released from the hospital, she was arrested on charges related to the incident. Once she returns to Michigan, she will be charged and police say more information will be released.
