Regular police request public videos from large parties on the night of the fatal shooting at ISU

The Normal Police Department (NPD) is asking for the public's help in the investigation of a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday during a large outdoor party.

An 18-year-old from Oak Lawn, Randall Glass, died in the shooting. Another 18-year-old was critically injured.

Regular police are leading the investigation and have made no arrests. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

Illinois State University police said the two victims were not affiliated with the university.

NPD is asking anyone with videos and information from the party at Fairview Park Saturday evening or the party at the Circle K supermarket at 300 N. Main St. in the early morning hours Sunday to share it with department investigators.

According to police, the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of University and Locust streets, a block from the Bone Student Center.

Images and videos circulating on TikTok and the anonymous social platform Yik Yak showed hundreds of people gathering at the Circle K gas station in Normal, west of the intersection of University and Locust, where the shooting occurred.

Several videos of the convenience store party were shared on social media. Police estimated the party had grown to 1,000 people.

The incident is the latest in a series of so-called pop-up parties across Normal in recent weeks. The parties usually started in public parks. Police said online organizers use social media to promote these events, sometimes only to provide exact times and locations at the last minute.

Town of Normal and ISU officials said these parties have strained community resources.

Mayor Chris Koos and university president Aondover Tarhule issued statements Monday condemning the parties. Tarhule said the parties were disruptive and “have no place in our community.”

NPD asks anyone who would like to share videos or information to email [email protected], text (309) 838-5074 and call Detective Darren Wolters at (309) 433-3415.

Tips can be shared anonymously at TIP411 through the Normal Police Department app or by text to 847411 by typing NORMALPD and then the tip.
