Why leaks about the PS5 and PC remake of Until Dawn sparked speculation about Until Dawn 2

Spoiler Warning: The following article contains spoilers not only for Until Dawn, but also for the Until Dawn remake.

More leaks about the PlayStation 5 and PC remake of Until Dawn have surfaced online, sparking speculation about a possible sequel to the fan-favorite horror game.

Until Dawn was originally released in 2015, but the Ballistic Moon remake is out tomorrow, October 4th. However, some fans snapped up a copy early on, and while one player already shared the game's remastered opening, essentially the whole thing has now leaked online.

The Until Dawn remake features many previously announced changes, such as: There will also be some even more significant changes, such as revised cinematography that uses a combination of fixed and over-the-shoulder camera views, new accessibility and usability settings, such as an alternative to the Don't Move mechanic, and now revealed through these leaks .

Until Dawn on PS5 and PC – and final spoiler warning before we reveal these changes – contains not only a remade opening, but also new closing scenes.

Reddit user crawplays shared the post-credit scenes below, which add new endings and a possible sequel teaser. Until Dawn is a horror game in which all eight main characters can live, die, or anything in between, and these two scenes particularly come at the end of Josh and Sam's “good” endings.

Josh's film is the smaller of the two and clears up some of the confusion surrounding his ending in the original Until Dawn. While his story may have had the most tragic ending, and even his positive outcome resulted in him being captured by his sister and becoming a scrawny, murderous monster, the remake definitely puts a more hopeful twist on things.

A cutscene shows Josh, played by Rami Malek, surviving the Wendigo encounter, while a voiceover from Doctor Hill, the therapist who speaks to him and the player between chapters, speaks of Josh finally finding redemption .

However, some players believe that the larger of the two scenes represents a sequel. It's the first scene that doesn't take place on the single night that the rest of Until Dawn takes place, but shows Sam, played by Hayden Panettiere, years later.

Fittingly, Sam wakes up at dawn in her Los Angeles apartment with medication and a book about myths on her bedside table. She swipes to unlock her phone and there are blood stains on the screen. She opens her palm and sees blood trickling down from a nasty scar on her arm that doesn't seem entirely real. After a knock on the door and more swipes on her arm, a voice behind her whispers, “Sam,” before the scene fades to black.

Original developer Supermassive Games has not otherwise indicated that a sequel is on the way, and is very busy with its Dark Pictures Anthology games. Although there have been several published in the years since Until Dawn came out, along with a full spiritual sequel in The Quarry, perhaps none of them have been as well received as Until Dawn itself.

The PS5 and PC versions were announced in January 2024, the latest in a long line of ports and remasters from Sony. Ballistic Moon also announced “significant” layoffs at the studio in September.

In our 7/10 review of the original game, IGN said, “Until Dawn is an inconsistent horror game, but it's still pretty damn fun.”
