Former UConn star Nika Muhl appears to have suffered a serious knee injury while playing overseas

Former UConn star Nika Muhl appeared to have suffered a potentially serious knee injury while playing for Besiktas in Turkey on Thursday.

After breaking in the third quarter of the team's game against Fenerbache, Muhl fell to the ground and grabbed her left kneescreaming in pain. She was carried off the field on a stretcher but eventually returned to the bench before the final moments of the game.

Former Husky player Gabby Wiliams, who plays for Fenerbache, could be seen running to Muhl's side after she went down and comforting her as the stretcher came out. After the game, the two hugged.

There was no immediate information after the game about the severity of Muhl's injury.

Muhl joined Besiktas earlier this week after completing her rookie season with the Seattle Storm, where she played sparingly, averaging just 3.6 minutes in 16 games. The Storm were eliminated in the first round of the WNBA playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces.

Both the Storm and Besiktas Get well messages posted on her social media accounts following the injury.

The 23-year-old, a 5-10 guard from Zagreb, Croatia, played four seasons at UConn. She was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year twice and received all-conference honors twice. Muhl broke both UConn's single-season and career assist records and helped lead the Huskies to the Final Four last season.

While many of her teammates have struggled with bad luck with injuries, Muhl has been consistent with the Huskies, playing in at least 33 games in each of her last three seasons, including 39 games last season.

This is breaking news. More will follow.
